THE WOOD LIFE – GLAMPING NR EXETER

The Wood Life offers a fantastic holiday experience. A huge and stylish hand-made tent combines the charm of camping with all the comforts of home. With exclusive use of a beautiful, eight acre, Devon woodland and total privacy.

Imagine the magic of letting your kids run wild in a wood for a week – think of the freedom. But you’re not cramped in a cold wet tent, you’re warm and dry in a comfortable tent with real beds and a large wood burning stove.

While you relax with a drink round a proper camp fire, the kids are busy playing in the tree house, exploring or building a den. Or maybe it’s a romantic break you’re after or a wildlife watching experience.

The tent sleeps six and measures 10 x 5 metres. It’s made by Albion Canvas and designed to give you plenty of space even on a wet day. Set on top of a wooden deck, enclosed by a hand made chestnut fence (with wood harvested from a few meters away) it really is pretty civilised.

There are two bedrooms (a double and a twin) and a sofa bed. The kitchen is very well-equipped and there’s a dining and sitting area with wood burning stove. Cooking can be done inside or outside on the barbeque or, if you’re feeling adventurous, over an open fire. There’s an oven too (wood-fired of course).

While we aim to provide most mod cons, the camp is off the grid. There’s a gas powered fridge, lighting by hurrican lamps, lots of torches, a wood powered shower and a separate composting loo.

And of course no proper camping experience is complete without a decent camp fire. There’s a plentiful supply of logs, but if you’d like to split your own we’d be delighted – it’s surprisingly therapeutic.

AREA DESCRIPTION

The Wood Life is tucked away in a secret location in Devon, just outside the village of Kenn and only five miles from Exeter. We’re also within five miles of the beach at Dawlish in one direction and the wilds of Dartmoor in the other. And there’s a good country pub within walking distance.

While we recommend just unwinding in the wood and enjoying the experience, if you’d like to get out and about then there’s plenty to do.

For the sports enthusiast there’s horse riding 3 miles, golf 4 miles and fishing only half a mile away. There’s loads of cycle trails nearby too.
For families there are lots of attractions nearby from zoos to adventure parks, or if you’d rather there’s a wide selection of historic homes and gardens.
For nature enthusiasts the Exe estuary is famous for its bird life including lots of waders and wildfowl.
For honeymooners and romantics – privacy is the key and there are lots of good pubs and restaurants. We’ll leave it at that.
