Swallowtail Hill, Rye – East Sussex

Bell Tents & Cottages on Wheels

Stylish, comfortable and quirky eco glamping near Rye. Swallowtail Hill offers a beautiful setting in which to spend a deeply relaxing holiday safe in the knowledge that its impact on the environment will be absolutely minimal. Located in the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty the farm offers a stylish glamping experience.

We have two traditional canvas bell tents and two quirky cottages-on-wheels which are our own rather eccentric designs – you won’t find anything similar around. Each of our units sleeps four people (one double bed and two singles).

Our two five-metre Bell Tents are set on wooden decks in a field that sits in the middle of the farm and backs on to a wood. The tents are sited at the bottom of this hillside field next to a pond.

Each tent has its own firepit. The site has a shared kitchen area which is also under canvas and there you will find a gas hob for those who prefer to cook more conventionally.

There is a covered dining area – shared by both tents and we provide all the necessary camping crockery, cutlery and useful kitchen tools you need along with a cooler box for your food and drink. We also provide rechargeable lanterns for your use.

The Meadow Keeper’s cottage and The Woodcutter’s Cottage are both one-offs. Hand-built by highly skilled local craftsmen with timber sourced from local woods, they are quirky cottages-on-wheels. Meadow Keeper’s sits in between our two meadows, and Woodcutter’s is deep within our wood.

Inside they are carefully constructed spaces that can accommodate four people. There’s a double bed, two singles that double up as benches, an indoor cooking area with gas hob and a log burner.

Each cottage has its own firepit outside.

The site is entirely off-grid. Facilities include compost loos and outdoor wood-fired showers.
