Summerhill Yurts in the Heart of Devon
Ecofriendly holidays on a working organic farm
Whether it’s a family holiday, a quiet weekend break for that special occasion, or a few days away from it all in the tranquil surroundings of mid Devon, Summerhill Farm provides the perfect place to stay.
We offer camping with a difference. Mongolian Yurts provide a hassle free alternative to staying in the great outdoors. Just bring yourselves and your spirit of adventure and we provide the rest. Our small farm is tucked away, providing a quiet haven with stunning views by day, star-filled skies at night.
We have three genuine Mongolian yurts, furnished to give a cosy, rustic feel with comfortable beds, rugs, cushions, chairs and storage. All this surrounds a central wood burning stove that helps keep the yurt warm and snug. The yurt will sleep 4 to 6 people, ideal for a family or a real treat for a couple. Each yurt is positioned in its own secluded spot with plenty of space and privacy and has its own outdoor seating area with barbeque facilities. Grab a stick and roam free and explore the farm. Follow the farm trail down to the river, along the old drovers road and discover the farm’s wildlife, an abundance of wild flowers, grand old oak trees, butterflies and birds. Meet the cows and their calves, sheep and other animals on the farm and even help herd the geese.
Close by to the yurts we have the barn which is equipped with all the necessary facilities to make your stay comfortable. The barn houses the toilets and a shower with electricity provided by solar panels on the barn roof. We provide a fully equipped kitchen with indoor dining area and each yurt is allocated its own fridge and food storage box.
Adjacent to the kitchen is a snug room with sofas and chairs where you can relax and unwind. Here you will find information about the farm, surrounding area, things to do and see and can browse our collection of maps and guides to help plan local walks and excursions. We have a selection of games for all ages including pool, darts and table football, as well as art stuff so that kids can unleash their creative talents or just make a mess.
Things To Do
Devon has got plenty to offer and we are situated right in the middle of Devon, not far from the A30 between Exeter and Okehampton on the Two Moors Way.
The northern edge of Dartmoor is close by, great for hiking, horse riding, cycling or just exploring the dramatic landscape of the moor. Local attractions include Castle Drogo (National Trust), Fingle Bridge and the market town of Chagford.
Exeter is only 15 miles east and has plenty to offer including the cathedral and historic quayside. Haldon forest park close to Exeter offers forest walks, mountain biking and the Go Ape hire wire forest adventure.
Both the north and south coasts of Devon are within easy reach and provide a diverse coastline range of beaches from the fossil hunting delights of the Jurassic coast in the south with traditional fishing villages such as Beer to the sandy surfing beaches of Woolacombe and Croyde and cliff top walks of north Devon. Just over the border into Cornwall there are yet more options for surfing and/or family days on the beache around Bude with Widemouth and Sandymoth Bays among our favourites and the picturesque cove of Crackington Haven.
There are plenty of pubs and places to eat nearby, we are happy to recommend our favourites. We also keep a supply of maps and leaflets in the barn to help you decide what to do and places to go.
