Pure Glamping in the Alentejo, Portugal

A perfect combination of camping in nature with the comfort of a hotel room, enjoy the tranquil atmosphere of the southwest coast of the Alentejo along with the liveliness of the coastal towns.

At Portugal Nature Lodge you will experience peace and relaxation. The only sound is the trill of the birds, the tinkling of the cowbells in a pasture just a few yards away and the gentle rustle of the leaves in the cork oak trees.

From your own private terrace take advantage of the picturesque panorama unfolding over the undulating valley, and over the hills to the distant horizon as far as the mountains of the Monchique range.

In this natural haven butterflies fly amidst the brightly coloured flowers, and with a little bit of luck you could even spot a special bird like the hoopoe or the African bee-eater.

The accommodation is something you might dream of. Your ‘apartment’ is a special and spacious tent; an American Tipi, a Mongolian Yurt or a South African Safari tent. Beautifully furnished and supplied with a private bathroom as well as an outside cooking area, every tent also enjoys a spacious terrace for lounging and soaking up the magnificent views.

Portugal Nature Lodge is the perfect place to catch up with reading those books you’ve been planning to read for a long time. Or just sit and relax. Laze in a hammock at your tent or in a chair at the swimming pool.

We have tried to keep the land as natural as possible; here you will really feel at one with nature. Nights on the Alentejan Southwest coast are wonderfully bright and clear, which makes it cool and comfortable in your tent. In the yurt and the tipi you can simply lie back and gaze at the stars from the comfort of your bed.

The Area

Portugal Nature Lodge is situated on the southwest coast of Portugal, just north of the Algarve, between the coastal villages of Zambujeira do Mar and Vila Nova de Milfontes. As the crow flies we are located just 10 km from the beautifully clean, clear ocean.

A short walk will take you to the traditional lentejan village of Troviscais. White and blue cottages and 2 cafes where you can drink the wonderful Portuguese coffee or have a drink and watch the village life go by. The village is nestled in the gently undulating hills, often green with crops and bordered with red earth tracks, salted with yellow and blue flowers and set against the deep blue sky.

A short ride by car will take you to stunning beaches – many often largely deserted

There is a variety of walks from the lodge and in the surroundings. Plenty of possibilities for cycling and mountain biking. And of course the water sports on the rivers and the ocean. Surfing, canoeing swimming, fishing… you name it.

We can arrange horse rides along the coast or through the mountains, and even activities like rock climbing and abseiling are possible. Dolphins can be watched in the Alentejo or in the Algarve.

The coastal towns of Vila Nova de Milfontes and Zambujeira do Mar have a range of restaurants, bars and clubs, especially in high season. Every August, Zambujeira hosts a big music festival with well-known artists. It is called the Sudouest Music Festival. In June there is a Jazz Festival in the nearby town of Odemira, concerts every Friday night in the park.  Also for music lovers is the World Festival of music in Sines in July- only an hours drive north.
