Glamping, Loop Head Peninsula
Purecamping, is a family-run eco-campsite set in the small village of Querrin, Co. Clare overlooking the Shannon Estuary. We are nestled into the south side of the Loop Head Peninsula, designated as a European Destination of Excellence (EDEN) in 2010. Loop Head lighthouse which is open to the public now, is only a short drive away, as are the beautiful towns and villages of Kilkee, Carrigaholt and Kilbaha.
We offer a camping space where guests can be genuinely close to nature, and can experience Ireland’s flora and fauna first hand.
Purecamping is simply that. Giving you, our guests a pure experience of outdoor life and camping as it should be and allowing you to tread lightly on the earth for a little while. It offers you an escape from busy complicated lives and hopes to bring you some peace and clarity. The camp embraces sustainable practices such as rainwater harvesting, solar heating and composting toilets.
Our campsite is south-facing and overlooks the Shannon Estuary with our emerging woodland in the foreground. The 10 acre woodland features only species native to Ireland.
Central to our campsite is a 12m geodesic dome providing a communal area for our guests. We have communal fires where you can spend your summer evenings under the stars.
As well as standard pitches, we also offer pre-erected furnished bell tents for those light travellers.
We provide a choice of toilet and shower facilities. Hot water to the main block is provided through solar panels and a wood stove. Water for this block is provided by rainwater harvesting and our own well.
An additional toilet and shower block featuring compost toilets and solar showers is also provided.
We can supply you with wood at a nominal fee for the camp fires.
Washup and laundry facilities consist of a series of sinks and washing lines.
Recycling and composting is encouraged and facilities are provided.

The Area
County Clare’s Loop Head peninsula juts into the Atlantic Ocean like a finger pointing westward. The Atlantic crashes onto its northern and western boundaries, whilst the Shannon Estuary lies to the south. With barely one mile of land keeping it connected to the mainland, the peninsula has one of the highest ratios of coastline to land surface area in the country. Over this landscape, the eponymous lighthouse stands as a sentinel, watching over the ocean and land.
A place of vibrant natural diversity, the peninsula plays host to the entire range of classified coastal ecosystems found on the Atlantic coast of Europe.
The population of the peninsula is sparse, with the small town of Kilkee being the one population centre of note. Beyond Kilkee, Loop Head’s people are gathered around a few attractive villages: Cross, Carrigaholt and Kilbaha. Relatively small and untouched by development, they have remained unchanged for much of the last century and, in appearance terms, provide an insight into a type of rural Irish life that has declined elsewhere. They subsist predominantly through agriculture, with the peninsula playing host to intensive
cattle farming of both the beef and dairy varieties. Visit www.loophead.ie for more information.
